Pakistani celebrities call for an end to domestic violence

We’ve all known someone, who has been a victim of domestic abuse and violence. If you think you don’t; think again.
Horrific details from the Mohsin Abbas incident remind us that women have for too long been suffering in silence. But the Pakistani celebrities are forming a circle of protection and support around the women who need it the most. They are using their influential platform and their powerful voices to speak up for those who can not.

“This needs to stop”

In response to the news of actor Mohsin Abbas attacking and hurting his pregnant wife, Mahira Khan wrote: “Sick to my stomach. What gives anybody the right to raise their hand on anyone? Nothing. No excuse. For eons now we have normalised abuse (of all kinds) and for the sake of our children this needs to stop.”
She further recommended that schools employ full time counselors to help children who come from turbulent homes.

“The word is now with you”

Extending words of support to Abbas’s wife, Fatima, Humaima Malick took to Twitter to write: “4 years..... four long years of abuse. Physical abuse, Mental abuse, and Emotional abuse Fatima now the world is with you go on #saynotodomesticviolence”

“How many such women do you know?”

Armeena Khan asked us a question we all may be too afraid to answer. “Here’s an honest question and you must answer truthfully to YOURSELF, not to anyone but you: How many women do you know in your own family/friends (extended and close) who have been abused (physically/Verbally) and you ignore it. Have your answer?#domesticviolence #societalissue”

“You cannot justify abuse”

Osman Khalid Butt said it loud and clear, this is violence and it cannot be justified. On Twitter, the actor wrote: “I've been staring at this screen, grappling with the images I saw, trying to form a coherent sentence. ... There is a special place in hell reserved for anyone who would lay so much as a finger on a woman. You cannot justify abuse. It is indefensible. I am sick to my stomach.”
